5B Update for the Week of 9/19

Hello Parents!

Happy Fall!  I hope that you had the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful weather this weekend. Thanks to all who were able to attend Curriculum Night.  I hope that you found the information helpful.

Here's what's going on in 5B this week:

Reading-This week we will continue to do research on our innovators/inventors.  We will be presenting on Friday. All groups have now gathered ample information about their innovators and have started working on their visual.  These projects are coming along nicely and the students have been working well together in groups.

Writing-This week our writing focus will be on an article that was recently published in the NY Times about SpongeBob Squarepants and how this research shows that young children who watch the show could potentially have attentional issues.  The students will be studying this article and discussing it with others.  They will then complete a few graphic organizers that focus on making inferences, drawing conclusions, and persuasion.

Science- Weather will continue to be our focus in science this week.  We will be engaging in two more experiments and will also complete some research on different types of clouds.  It should be another hands-on week in science!  The students have really been enjoying the experiments and group work.

Of course, we will continue to write journal entries in our Reading Response Journals and our Reflection Journals.

We enjoyed our second citizenship celebration this past Friday.  The students voted to have an extra recess since they met their goal of earning 35 gold tickets in one week!  GREAT JOB!!

I hope that you all have an enjoyable week!
