Hello Parents and Students!
Looking forward to our first full week of school!
Important events this week include the Annual Ice Cream Social at May Watts. It's this Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:00pm. Hope to see you all there!
Also, the Band/Orchestra Parent Informational Meeting is this Thursday, August 29th, at 7:00pm in the auditorium at Metea Valley HS.
Here's what's going on in the classroom:
Spelling/Word Study: Spelling will begin next week. We have a brand new program this year which will be totally different from what we've had in the past. Students will be required to analyze or break down the words along with learning how to spell them. I will be introducing this to the students next week and will overview it for the parents at Curriculum Night.
Math Accel: Math begins this Tuesday. We will begin the year with The Number System which will include reading and writing large numbers, place value, etc. I created my own math website over the summer and will have the students refer to it to watch videos and use some of the resources on it for reinforcement.
English Language Arts: This is our reading, writing, listening and speaking time. Our current read aloud in class is the book, Because of Mr. Terupt, which goes along with our Identity theme. I have read the first 5 or 6 chapters up to this point and the students are analyzing the characters in their Reading Response Journals. We will also be doing some close reads during this time to work on comprehension and presenting our Me In A Bag projects this Wednesday and Thursday.
Social Studies: For those of you who are new to District 204, we rotate back and forth between Science and Social Studies. We are starting the year with Social Studies and our topic will be Explorers. The students will be working in groups to complete a ThinkQuest about the many explorers of the 1400's through the 1600's.
Looking forward to a great week!
