Hello Parents and Students!
Here are the reminders for this week:
1. There is NO SCHOOL for students this Monday. It is Building Articulation Day. Enjoy the extra day off!
2. Student picture day is this Wednesday, September 10th. Please return your picture form if you plan to order pictures.
Here's what's going on in the curricular areas this week:
Word Study: This week we will study the Vowel Consonant "e" syllable. (VC-e) The words have been posted to the blog. The students will need to know how to spell, diagram and separate the words into syllables. This week they will also need to know the meaning of each word. We will review all of this in class. The test will be on Friday.
Math Accel: This week in MA we will be working on adding and subtracting decimals. To help the students better understand this skill, they will be doing a small project. Towards the end of the week, we will be moving onto multiplication of decimals.
English Language Arts (ELA): We will continue to discuss identity by doing a close read of the song, True Colors by Cyndi Lauper. The students will then be introduced to the poem, Where I'm From. We will analyze and discuss this poem in great detail as it is quite difficult. If time allows, we will begin writing our own Where I'm From poems. This activity may go into next week. In Citizenship, we will be discussing comfortable and uncomfortable feelings and controlling our emotions. Our read-aloud book continues to be Because of Mr. Terupt and it is getting very interesting now. We will also go to the computer lab and create Wordles about ourselves.
Science: Our Soda/Mentos experiments were awesome! We learned all about the Scientific Method and then tested our hypotheses. Ask your child which soda exploded the highest! This week in science we will be studying weather tools and we will make an anemometer. Late in the week we will begin learning about the layers of the atmosphere.
That's it for now! If you have any questions or concerns, just email me.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Bennick
