5B Activities for the Week of March 2, 2015

Hello Parents and Students!

Welcome to March! This school year is flying by!

Here are the reminders for this week:

1.  Please have your child bring in headphones or ear pods on Monday.  We will need them for PARCC testing.

2.  PARCC testing is this week.  It will occur Monday through Friday in the morning only.

Here's what's going on in the curricular areas this week:

Word Study:  This week we will be working on words that are R-Controlled.  The words will be posted to the blog on Monday morning because I saved them on my desktop at work and I don't have access to them now at home. :-(  Sorry for the inconvenience. As usual, the test will be on Friday.  Students will get their word list on Monday as usual.

Math Acceleration:  We will be finishing up the last lesson in Unit 5 this week.  We will only have math three days this week due to PARCC testing.  This will give us enough time to finish the last lesson(s) and review.  We will also be creating our study guides.  As of right now, the Unit 5 test is scheduled for next Tuesday, March 10th.  However, during the week of March 9th, PA math testing will occur.  I am unsure of the exact dates for that, so we may need to be flexible with the Unit 5 test date.

English Language Arts:  We will continue our study of our anchor text, Red Kayak.  We will be having a quiz on the vocabulary from chapters 10-12 on Wednesday.  We will review for this on Monday/Tuesday.  We will also be responding to questions in our journals pertaining to this book.  The students were introduced to narrative poems last week.  We will begin writing our own narrative poems this week.

Science:  We are at the end of our study of the Digestive System.  Our assessment of this unit will be on Thursday.  We will be reviewing the material earlier in the week.  Also, due to PARCC testing, the computer lab and laptops will not be available for use this week and next.  Therefore, we will have to postpone working on our Digestive System brochures for a couple of weeks.  They are coming along nicely and we will continue working on them as computers become available.  The students may also continue working on these at home if they would like. I have saved many of the students'  brochures to my flash drive.  However, if you have an extra flash drive at home, please send it to school with your child so he/she can save their brochure to work on at home.

Social Studies:  We are moving back into social studies this week.  Last week we had a quick pre-assessment about how much we know about King George III and George Washington.  We'll continue to talk about these two famous men this week as we move closer to the Revolutionary War.

That's it for now.

Please email me with questions.

Thank you,

Mrs. Bennick :-)
