Hello Parents and Students:
Just a reminder that Spring Break will begin at the end of this school week. School will resume on Monday, April 7th.
Also, the end of the 3rd Quarter was this past Friday. The last quarter of school begins Monday. Time is flying!
Here's what's going on this week in 5B:
Word Study/Spelling: We will continue to study Homographs this week. This is a two part lesson. We finished part 1 last week and will be doing part 2 this week. The words have been posted to the blog and the test will be on Friday. The format for the test will be the same as last week.
Math Acceleration: We are currently in Unit 6. We have reviewed multiplication of fractions and will be reviewing division of fractions. For the last half of the week, we will be doing math brain teasers and puzzles. After spring break, we will continue in Unit 6 with adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers.
English Language Arts (ELA): During ELA this week the students will continue to work on their Lemonade books. They will be due at the end of the week. We will also be studying Harris Burdick pictures from the book by Chris Van Allsburg, The Mysteries of Harris Burdick. This is a higher level book of short stories that will really make the kids think. During computer lab time, we will be working on our Writer's Workshop projects. We will also be working on our organizational skills. I have a lesson to teach about how to best organize our desks. This should be fun! Since 4th Quarter will begin on Monday, we will also be changing seats at some point this week. Also, our theme for 4th Quarter is Moving Forward and our next read-aloud book is entitled, Red Kayak.
Science: We had our Digestive System test last week and the results were amazing. This week, we will be finishing up our Digestive System brochures in the computer lab.
That's it for now. Please email me with any questions.
Thank you!
Mrs. Bennick
